A Welcome from the College Head
I am delighted to welcome you to the Vanier College community at York. University is an important transition in one’s life and we want you to make Vanier College an important part of your success at York. In a large University such as York, Colleges are vital hubs of connection for both students and faculty. Each academic program of study has a home in a specific College. Not only do we at Vanier College host the Orientation for the programs affiliated with us, we also provide a warm, friendly setting for students to meet other students, faculty, and staff members throughout the year. We help make this BIG university into a small, welcoming community. In addition, we cooperate with our mandated departments and programs, to offer Program Specific Workshops throughout the year. These workshops help students in virtually every aspect of university life, such as essay writing, library skills, time management, and choosing a major.
We also offer a host of other services for students. We offer study space and support various student clubs, organizations and student government. Our student clubs are eager to meet you and get you involved in their activities. Are you interested in acting or directing? Vanier College has its own theatre and theatre group called, Vanier College Productions (VCP), where you can participate in all aspects of theatrical production. Perhaps you are interested in social clubs, athletics or publishing. To learn more about any of these activities, connect to the Get Involved link on this web site. Finally, as we celebrate Vanier’s 50th anniversary this year, I hope you will get involved in some of the celebrations and activities at Vanier. Stay posted on all our activities through the Vanier Events link.
We look forward to meeting you in the coming year, so drop by the Office of the College Head, Vanier College for an introduction or if you have questions or suggestions about workshops, student clubs, performances, or other college-related activities. Getting involved in our College community helps you have an exciting and successful experience at York University.
Wishing you every success in 2018-2019
Stanley Tweyman, College Head
